Project Description

MEHARI COMPETITION

LOCATION: Naples, Italy
YEAR: 2012
STATUS: Competition

The emblem of peace drawn on a cheek, a car that has always inspired freedom, a word to find truth and fairness, its youth full of dreams; this is Giancarlo Siani, reporter who was unfairly killed by the Camorra the 23/09/1985 in Naples. His Citroen Mehari is a car of inestimable value with a significance that goes far beyond what we can imagine. This car is the emblem of freedom, is the box that contains many of his thoughts, was part of his job and his daily life. For all these reasons Giancarlo’s Mehari means “Life” that together with freedom, justice and truth represents the main concept of our design. There is also another word that from our point of view encompass all the concepts listed above, it is “Peace”. Peace is represented in our project from the famous symbol created in 1958 by Gerald Holtom who repeated for about 1400 times creates a filter between the Mehari and the surrounding world. This symbolic filter, along with the words Truth, Justice and Freedom, creates the “container” more visible during the day when illuminated by the sunrays. At night everything changes, just as it happened on September 23rd, 1985, however this time Life will prevail and the Mehari becomes the main subject, the heart of the surrounding  area to remind everyone that Giancarlo Siani is still here, with its 26 years, with his smiles, his dreams, but especially with his words.
